At Turner Design Build, we spend a lot of our time building, remodeling, repairing, and improving homes. But over the years, we’ve been reminded that the skills we use every day can do something more: they can serve people and strengthen communities.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce Turner Cares— a new part of Turner Design Build dedicated to giving back through hands-on service.

Why Turner Cares?

Turner Design Build volunteering team.

Giving back isn’t something we decided to add to our business plan. It’s something that has already been part of who we are.

Our team has had opportunities over the years to step outside of our everyday work and use our time, skills, and resources to help others. From serving communities affected by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina to traveling to rural villages in Ecuador, we’ve seen firsthand how meaningful it can be to simply show up and put our skills to work.

Turner Cares gives those efforts a home—and gives us a vision for where we want to go next. Our long-term goal is to partner with nonprofits, churches, and community organizations throughout the Lake Norman area and beyond. Sometimes that may mean renovating a space. Sometimes it might mean painting, building, repairing, or tackling a project that an organization simply doesn’t have the resources to complete.

Whatever the project looks like, the goal is the same: use what we know how to do to make a difference.

Building Beyond the Jobsite

Construction is a practical skill. We build things that people can see and use every day. Some of the most meaningful projects aren’t about the finished product. They’re about the family who gets to return home after a disaster. The community organization that can finally open the doors to a space it desperately needed. The child who has a safe place to learn and grow. The person who knows that someone cared enough to show up and help.

Those are the projects that remind us that building can be about so much more than houses.

Looking Back—and Looking Ahead

One of the experiences that helped shape this vision was our work with Baptist On Mission following Hurricane Helene. Our team collected clothing and supplies at our office before traveling to Western North Carolina, where we worked alongside other volunteers to help families begin rebuilding damaged homes.

We’ve also had the opportunity to serve internationally. Turner Design Build owner Shawn Turner and his son and team member Layton traveled to Ecuador to work alongside One Heart Global Ministries, helping meet construction needs in rural communities while building relationships with local families.

Both experiences reinforced something we already believed: construction can be a powerful way to serve others. We’re excited to see where that takes us next.

This Is Just the Beginning

Turner Cares is intentionally a work in progress. As we find new opportunities to serve, we’ll share the stories here—highlighting the organizations we partner with, the projects our team takes on, and the people who make these efforts possible.

And we hope Turner Cares becomes bigger than just our team.

We want to invite our clients, trade partners, friends, and neighbors throughout the Lake Norman community to join us when opportunities arise. Sometimes that might mean donating supplies. Sometimes volunteering a Saturday. Sometimes simply sharing the story of an organization doing good work in our community.

There are a lot of ways to care. We just happen to know how to build things.

Welcome to Turner Cares.

We’re looking forward to seeing what we can build together.
