Modern Davidson bathroom with white cabinets, sinks, mirrors, and a shower.

They say getting older beats the alternative — and we couldn’t agree more! The real goal is to age gracefully and comfortably, which starts with homes designed to support independence for years to come.

At Turner Design Build, we know the best remodels aren’t just about today — they’re about creating spaces that serve homeowners and their families well into the future. We had the opportunity to design and build a primary bath addition with aging in place in mind. Admittedly, our normal requests around Lake Norman are for outdoor living spaces, kitchen remodels and projects that want an overall increase in style and functionality. When approached for a bathroom addition with aging in place in mind, we welcomed the change and felt inspired by the request.

The homeowner’s priority was independence when the time came. With that goal, our team carefully planned every detail to make the space both functional and beautiful. The new layout included:

A wet room — A fully waterproofed space where the shower is open and level with the floor. With no barriers or curbs, it’s safe, accessible, and has a clean, modern look.

36-inch openings — Wider doorways ensure smooth wheelchair access and easier movement throughout the space.

Thoughtful handle placement — Fixtures and hardware are positioned for easy reach and usability.

Turn radius planning — The layout was designed to allow comfortable wheelchair maneuverability in both the closet and wet room

By building with accessibility in mind now, the homeowner is prepared for whatever the future brings — whether that means maintaining independence later in life, welcoming aging parents, or creating a comfortable space for future generations.

This remodel is a perfect example of how design and construction work hand in hand. As a design-build firm, we’re able to look ahead and build in thoughtful details that allow homeowners to enjoy their home for decades to come, with both comfort and confidence

Beautiful design. Practical function. Built for today — and tomorrow.
